The story of Wesselton begins when Joan Sala Tres, born in Barcelona, is caught up in the Civil War while serving in the army. So, he was a soldier in the army of the republican side, and was assigned for a time to Girona, where he met Modesta Batlle Nicolau.

When the Civil War ended, Joan Sala spent some time in a prison camp. When he left, he went to Girona where he married Modesta Batlle. A short time later there was a heavy flood in Girona, in 1940. In this flood, their brother-in-law (Modesta’s sister’s husband) died during the flood, when he was trying to save his wife and his little son climbing them on the roof of the house.

When this man died, he left a small watchmaking business in Plaça Marqués de Camps. So, Joan Sala decided to start managing the small shop to feed both families. This is how he learned how to fix watches and when he began to enter the world of watchmaking.

9 years later, in 1949, his nephew grew up and started managing the watchmaking business that his father had left for him. So Joan Sala had to set up another shop to continue in the trade he had learned. This shop was located at Pujada de Sant Feliu number 1 in Girona, in front of the attic where they lived. He had this shop for a few years, until he moved to a small counter in a stair entrance of Casa Norat on Rambla de la Llibertat number 25. There, he covered the columns of the modernist facade to put there some watch windows.

The first steps
